Welcome

author: Showground Gardener

Welcome to The Showgarden of Real Living blog – and welcome to what promises to be a sizzling summer of plants and gardens, new friends and sunshine!

My name is Lorelei – I’m an artist and a gardener. I work with people and plants to create events and environments that get us thinking and talking about how we experience the world.

I’ve lived in Trumpington for about 11 years and as I’ve watched the Clay and Glebe Farm developments being planned and built, I’ve seen the fields that used to surround the village of Trumpington gradually disappear and hundreds of gardens and community spaces emerge from between the new buildings. That’s a lot of potential green space – and that’s where The Showgarden of Real Living at 93 Addenbrookes Road comes in.

As the Showground of Real Living’s Gardener in Residence, I’m making a garden that will serve as a venue for experiments in horticulture, rehearsing what might be possible in these plots and public places, encouraging everyone to try out ways of using their outdoor spaces and providing a place to meet other people who are interested in growing plants.

If you’ve never had a garden before, or never fancied growing plants, I hope the Plant for a Pot Plant Swap and Shillshare Sundays will introduce you to the joys of watching a seedling grow and flower, a vegetable plant mature and become ready to eat, the benefits of designing a beautiful and practical space that works for you and your family, friends and neighbours, and the special kind of deep relaxation and rest that happens when you connect with the natural world in a wildlife friendly way. So far, I’ve grown and given away hundreds of plants. These plants are a gift from me to you; a welcome home.

In this blog, I’ll be telling you all about what’s happening at the Showgarden and how you can get involved. I hope you find it useful and inspiring. Whether you’re an experienced gardener who’s excited by the challenge of designing and creating a totally new garden from an empty space, someone with an established garden who’d like to share your local knowledge and give away some spare seedlings, an interested newcomer to gardening who needs a helping hand getting started, or perhaps you’d just like to meet other people in an enjoyable setting, the Showgarden and Showgarden Blog is the place to be.

Let the gardening commence!
