What's happening?
author: Showground GardenerIf you're new to Trumpington (and even if you're not), and you're interested in gardening, you may want to know what's happening locally.
Trumpington Gardening Society (TruGS) is a local gardening group open to all - you can find them on the internet.
Trumpington Allotment Society (TAS) run the local allotment plots and hold events throughout the year - like seed and plant swaps. You don't have to have an allotment plot to become an associate member, which gives you access to their trading shed, stocked with gardening supplies at competitive prices. Again, you can find them on-line.
The Trumpington Community Orchard is situated next to the existing allotment plots. It is open to all, all year round and holds regular events and volunteering opportunities, helping people connect with nature, learn horticultural skills and contribute to enhancing the biodiversity of the local area. It's also a very nice spot for a picnic!
These local groups welcome new members - especially if they're willing to roll up their sleeves and get involved with admin, events and maintenance. They're a great way of meeting people, getting advice from seasoned gardeners who know the local area and finding fellow gardeners who want to swap and share plants and seeds.
Gardening isn't nearly as scary if you have people to hold your hand along the way. I should know - I learned how to garden in Trumpington.
